A Black Tie event is one where you are required to wear a Dinner Jacket. In today’s world, it is the most formal dress code that there is. Though this was not always the case, one hardly comes across a White Tie event these days. Now not all of us are comfortable wearing a dinner jacket. In fact these days, it seems that most people are not even comfortable in a jacket and tie, especially within the ‘wildlife’ community. It seems that the more disdain one has for his personal appearance, the more of a ‘wildlifer’ he is. However I digress. This should not be a rant against current fashion trends.

However, in the wild, we have one couple who is always dressed in a black tie. This is the Pied Bushchat. Pied, simply put, means black and white, and the Pied Bushchat male is black and white in colour. Now there are a lot of others who are similarly dressed, but the Pied Bushchat has a special place in my life, as a couple had decided to make a home outside my office window in Kabini.

Pied Bushchat, Female

My most enjoyable moments in Kabini were spent observing this well-dressed gentleman and his equally elegant, though understated wife go about their daily business. As I mentioned in my earlier post, one should enjoy the entire Kabini experience, and there is no better place to do so than from within the Orange County campus, where you will most certainly run into this dapper couple.
