Lifescapes
Lifescapes is a photo story on the nature of our destinations. It’s said that a good photograph takes an instant out of time, and alters life by holding it still. It’s also said that the best still images, are moving. They move you beyond time and space, move you emotionally, spiritually and intellectually; move you because they tell an entire story, in a single frame. This, then, has been the philosophy behind LIFESCAPES; to share with you, the lore of our land, in the form of a fortnightly photo-essay.
Every fortnight, we shall share with you a slice of life at our locations, told in a single, compelling picture with a short commentary. We, at Orange County, hope that you will enjoy this offering, and share that joy with your friends. This would help immeasurably in our Responsible Tourism Initiatives by kindling the spark of interest in the nature and culture of our land.
Bibliophiles and cinema buffs have long known ‘The Jackal’ as a furtive killer whose presence is felt only after he’s gone, leaving in his wake, a dead body or two (the real Jackal, though, doesn’t believe in leaving dead bodies behind, as we shall see). One doesn’t know if, Carlos the Jackal, the most famously […]

For all you bike aficionados, we don’t have to spell it out. The iconic Hayabusa is quite simply, the top dog in the superbike speed stakes. While the Busa has been around (ok, ok…we agree that at 200 mph, it doesn’t just sit ‘around’) since 1999, the original version has been racing for a small […]

Remember those mug shots at police stations and public gatherings, warning us to watch out for malcontents? Remember how each portrait oozed criminal intent, and made you clutch your wallet as a reflex action and look closer at your neighbor? The mug shots at Kabini, however, feature a rather distinguished visage that bespeaks an impeccable […]

He’s a bird. But someone forgot to tell him that. For, the Little Grebe prefers to cruise well below where other birds of a feather flock together. A strong swimmer who’s much happier wetting his beak during his daily laps of the Kabini, one suspects that he often forgets he can fly. To prove this […]

We all know what it took some of our reigning deities to arrive on the Bollywood music scene: a little talent, and the not-so-little ability to be ‘inspired’ by others’ compositions. I mean, how many times have we seen narcissistic composers lapping up all the credit for a hit song without even batting a false […]

It’s a bond that has endured over 5000 years, through epochal moments in history and eras of relative calm that lay between the seismic cultural faults that defined human civilization. In fact, Eric Scigliano, in his iconic tome on the ‘man-animal’ bond, has propounded the theory that elephants may have been ‘nursemaids’ to human evolution, […]

What do you call someone who hangs around upside down, and prefers to descend a tree, head first? Is this another transcendental yogi, or just someone ripe for the local loony bin? Consider also, that this is someone who keeps urging you to ‘sit, sit, sit’, and then tweets a ‘chip, chip, chip’, and you […]

Long before Richard Bode’s bestseller on life’s little lessons, the boatmen of Kabini had learnt the selfsame ‘art of living’ in their little floating classroom: the Coracle! Living, as they did, on the banks of the Kabini, the Coracle was their friend, philosopher and guide: a constant companion as they went about the business of […]

If you were to call someone a ‘Drongo’ on a visit to Australia, be prepared to either show a clean pair of heels or to settle it outside, man to man. For, down under, the term is used to refer to someone who’s a stupid no-hoper. The slang originates from a famous racehorse of that […]

For a photo-essay that celebrates the finest in nature photography, the viewers may be forgiven for wondering how we allowed this image to pass without that most basic of photo editing techniques: red-eye correction! They could also be forgiven for wondering if the Editor had a bad case of ‘red eye’ syndrome after a late […]
